As part of its ongoing commitment to public health protection and the fight against addiction, the Ministry of Finance introduced a three-year schedule of excise duty rate increases on alcohol, effective from 1 January 2024. This measure aims to reduce alcohol consumption while ensuring a structured and predictable approach for economic operators in the sector.
Excise Duty rate increase in 2026
In accordance with this schedule, the excise duty rate on alcohol increased in 2026 by 5% compared to 2025. As a result, the new excise duty rate applicable from 1 January 2026 is:
- CZK 41,050 per hectolitre of alcohol
This adjustment reflects the government’s broader policy objectives in addressing health-related risks associated with alcohol consumption.

The updated excise duty rates are summarized in the table below:

While the duty rate on alcohol has risen significantly, other categories such as beer, semi-products, and wine remain stable. Businesses involved in the production, import, or distribution of alcoholic beverages should take these updated rates into account when planning for compliance and pricing strategies in 2026.
